My closest friends have described my third book as "luminous," "immediate and intimate; I feel like you're whispering into my ear," and "so good it makes you mad."

If I had to use just one word to describe this book it would be nostalgic. But if you'd permit me to use more I would say that it is tender—it is soft and subtle and most of all, hopeful. I've written stories about the house I grew up in and my parents divorce—of the jacaranda tree in our back yard and my grandmother's wedding ring. I've written about being a single mom and watching my baby grow. I've written spells, of course, little reminders of our cosmic roots to keep us going.

And I've written, as well, letters to two people I have loved—letters of forgiveness and acceptance and finality. I don't know what else to say about the book other than I hope it takes you where you need to go, when you need to. I hope if you’re feeling tender or tired or in need of something warm or something familiar these words will embrace you.
